Helper is one of Tim Biskup’s best-known figures and has appeared in many different guises over the artist’s career. Originally conceived as a cute character, Helper gradually acquired a much deeper significance for Biskup, who uses the figure as a symbol of corruption, arrogance and short-sightedness. In this version, the standing Helper has no mouth, focussing attention on entirely on the iconic character’s single eye. Wooden Helper, designed exclusively for Limited by SOLO, is hand-crafted in resin, with a wood-look finish.

The high-shine finish of Dark Helper adds malevolent appeal to Tim Biskup’s iconic figure. First developed as a goofy character, Helper has come to symbolise much more for the LA-based artist, who sees it as a representation of arrogance or the inability to accept alternative perspectives. This interpretation is highlighted in Dark Helper, a hand-crafted resin figure designed exclusively for Limited by SOLO. On this occasion, Tim Biskup’s Helper is presented as an elongated form without a mouth, so focussing attention on this trademark character’s single eye.

Material
Acrylic paint on polyester resin with an oxide finish.

Hand-cast in resin with a rust effect finish, this version of Tim Biskup’s iconic Helper is exclusive to Limited by SOLO. Over the years, Helper has featured regularly in Biskup’s art, both as a recurring motif in his graphic works and a stand-alone sculpture. From its beginnings as a cute figure, this cyclops has come to symbolise much more to its LA-based creator, representing “what man becomes when he believes he knows the will of God.” Rusty Helper inevitably alludes to the pass of time, adding even further meaning to Tim Biskup’s symbol of corruption and conceit.
