Vibrant colour, flattened forms and the irreverent energy of punk rock come together in Tim Biskup’s distinctive artworks. His style is often associated with pop-surrealism and lowbrow, although the ever-evolving practice of this LA-based artist defies easy classification. An eternal explorer, Tim Biskup has embraced abstract and figurative elements, design inspiration and character development through a career spanning over 20 years.
Born in Santa Monica, California, Biskup attended Otis College of Art and Design before moving into illustration and animation. His personal artwork was initially rejected by galleries, so in 1999 he began hosting live art auctions at bars around Los Angeles as an outlet for his creations and those of other artists including Mark Ryden and Gary Baseman. These Burning Brush Art Auctions served as a launchpad for Biskup, who has since shown his work in gallery and museum settings in Los Angeles, New York, São Paulo, Barcelona, Berlin and Paris, among others.
In 2017, Biskup founded Face Guts, a gallery space and artists’ residence in Glassel Park, California, while his monograph and autobiography, Tree of Life (Chronicle Chroma), was published in 2019.
