Fears of a robot invasion take shape in The Book of Love, a giant-sized comic cover created by Spanish artist, Sergio Mora. Drawing on pulp aesthetics, the Barcelona-based artist shows a pin-up girl artist battling against an enormous, one-eyed robot. Both are armed with paintbrushes, a humorous reference to debates on artificial intelligence, creativity and authorship, while the figure in the foreground recalls the artist’s painting, Presagios (2013), held by Colección SOLO. The Book of Love is one of eight artworks commissioned for Still Human, the exhibition held at Espacio SOLO Madrid during 2020.

Classical canons of beauty come under attack in Venus Envy, by Canadian artist Ryan Heshka. A giant female robot, reminiscent of the vampy comic heroines that populate many of Ryan Heshka’s artworks, unleashes her wrath on an ancient sculpture in a giant-sized comic cover that brings a colourful dose of pulp comic glam to the debate on artificial intelligence and creativity. Venus Envy is one of eight works commissioned for the Espacio SOLO exhibition, Still Human, a reflection through almost 100 artworks on our relationship with new developments and technologies.
