A pacific-island haven populated by a robot, a flamingo and a vintage comic heroine, fully equipped with a water jug and a smartphone. Where else could we be but the pop-surrealist universe of Spanish artist, Sergio Mora? In Selfie, influences such as Henri Rousseau and early cartoons are infused with the artist’s characteristic humour. This blue and white scene recalls the artworks Mora created for the Jose Andrés restaurant, Bazaar Mar, and reflects the artist’s interest in developing a style that works across tiling, tattoo art or hard ground etching prints. Selfie is a limited edition, hand-etched by the artist and developed exclusively for Limited by SOLO.

Paradise is reimagined in Sergio Mora’s Apple, one of three hard ground etching prints developed exclusively for Limited by SOLO and hand-etched by the artist. The artwork presents a pin-up girl heroine together with Mora’s trademark hero, Botijoman, in a tropical setting reminiscent of Henri Rousseau’s jungle paintings. An all-seeing eye looks outward as the pair snap photos, fruity temptations in their hands, while the blue and white palette recalls the tilework created by the artist for the Jose Andrés restaurant, Bazaar Mar, in Miami. Vintage comic aesthetics are infused with humour in Sergio Mora’s creations, in this case, explorations of a visual language that bridges ceramics, tattoo art or prints.

Pin-up girl glamour invades a jungle paradise in A Fair in my Garden by Sergio Mora. Inspired by Henri Rousseau’s paintings and vintage comics, the artwork presents an alluring heroine riding tiger-back through a lush tropical landscape. Developed in different shades of blue, it recalls artworks created by Mora for the Jose Andrés restaurant, Bazaar Mar, and reflects his interest in finding a visual language which can be expressed in tiling, tattoo art or prints. A Fair in my Garden is one of three hard ground etching prints developed exclusively for Limited by SOLO, hand-etched by the artist.
