Alex Hug
Madrid, Spain

Alex Hug Henkes, born in Madrid in 1989, has spent the last few years traveling through European capitals, acquiring new knowledge and gathering inspiration thanks to his multicultural upbringing.

After studying at Central Saint Martins (London, 2007 - 2008 / 2010 - 2011) and Parsons Paris (Paris, 2009 - 2010), she graduated with honors in fashion design from Marangoni London and Manchester Metropolitan University (London, 2011 - 2014). She completed a Master's degree in Sustainable Fashion at ESMOD (Berlin, 2017 - 2018). Her work has always been notable for its critique of social and environmental issues.

Alex has her sights set on the future, seeking sustainable alternatives for the fashion industry, thanks to this, she founded A. HUG in 2016. It is there that the artist rescues what was considered "unwanted" and transforms it into wearable works of art. Reinventing the fusion of the hug into wearable sculptures, A. HUG produces works of art under a sustainable philosophy in which reuse, recreation and recycling predominate. Thanks to her work, she has been awarded the Neo2 New Designers Award (2018).

Through her experience, she begins to exhibit at conferences such as GBSB GLOBAL (2019), Slow Fashion Festival (2020) and IADE (2020), while simultaneously teaching classes on creation through Upcycling at the European Institute of Design (2019-present).

In 2020, Alex takes A. HUG and its philosophy of embrace to a new level, breaking with the functionality of fashion. She calls herself a textile sculptor and breaks with the term "designer" to dedicate herself to works of art that transcend the established framework of fashion. One of these pieces was part of the Still Human exhibition at the SOLO Collection.

Alex Hug continues to search for new ways to reuse fabrics in an artistic and sustainable way, being a finalist in the Green Concept Award (2021) with one of his proposals.
